Is That a Bee in my Wax?

There has been considerable debate on the type of wax to use in ear candles to promote the “best” ear candling experience.

Universally, Beeswax is considered the best in the industry. The Ear Candle Lady agrees. It’s my personal favorite.

However, even with beeswax there are several different “grades” which can change the price and availability of beeswax ear candles.

Those who believe in the purest form of anything tend to gravitate to terms like “filtered” or better, “Triple Filtered”! This type of beeswax is run though several filters to remove the naturally ocuring materials (such as bee parts), it’s usually pale yellow, sometimes even white and is billed as the purest form. Unfortunately, filtered wax, especially the “triple filtered”, has had chemical alterations to actually “bleach” it. It looses it’s fragrant honey aroma and has a bit of a medicinal smell to it.

Pure, in this case, is not what I consider pure. The Ear Candle Lady is happy to see bees in my wax because I know the wax has been unaltered. I’m actually relieved to see a more natural & “pure” look to ear candles than to see the pristine, sanitized, medical device looks which the major companies work so hard to acheive (and charge you for).

Some call true pure & natural ear candles: “scruffy” or “rustic”.

When unfiltered wax is used in ear candling, it makes them more cost effective, durable, they smell GREAT and it keeps less chemicals out of the candle. That translates to less chemicals entering your body when you ear candle.

Triple Filtered is a marketing term to make the consumer believe they are somehow getting more for their money when actually, they are getting less “natural” and more chemically refined candles.

Do you have to look for unfiltered wax when you buy ear candles? No. But “triple filtered” is a sure bet there’s chemicals or bleach added. You have to decide what “Pure” means to you.

The important thing about BEESWAX ear candles is to make sure you are buying 100% Beeswax. If you are going to pay the higher price for Beeswax be aware that a candle can be called BEESWAX if it has 55% beeswax. Many beeswax candles have paraffin added and the companies don’t tell you. 100% Beeswax should be just that; 100%.

Since there is no regulation in the ear candle industry, you have to have trust in your ear candle company that they are being truthful about their beeswax. The companies I have recomended on my website who advertise 100% Beeswax do indeed sell 100% Beeswax.

They also sell Beeswax Blend, which will have a mixture of either soy, paraffin, or palm wax mixed with the Beeswax.

You can check out my website for more details on the different types of wax, but until then, if you get a bee in your wax, don’t worry. It’s all good!

Dear Kate:

Kate wrote me and wanted to know why I think ear wax and allergies are related. I don’t. I think allergies, their symptoms and THE EAR are related. She wanted me to provide her a link to another of my blog posts (which would otherwise require her to “dig”.). Kate was doing research on debunking ear candling, happened upon my blog and wanted answers. She wrote me that “in this day and age she shouldn’t have to dig” to find answers to her questions. Isn’t that what “research” is all about?

Dear Kate: Hummm. . . I think you should keep digging. I dug for my results, doctors and scientists dig for theirs too. When you discover your answers you’ll have earned the right to say something.

For the rest of you, I’m not a doctor so it would be totally illegal for me to post anything that would presume to “treat, diagnose or prescribe” medical issues.

That’s where Kate is coming from. She wants me to say that ear candling is a MEDICAL TREATMENT. It’s not. Massage Therapy also is NOT a medical treatment yet there are several benefits derived from it that the medical professionals can’t explain. The only legal statement that a Massage Therapist can make about Massage Therapy is: “Massage increases circulation.”

Ok, Ear Candling is relaxing. There I’ve said it!

Keep digging Kate. . .

Where does the time go?

Not only did I miss the entire month of November, but now December is well underway and I have ignored the ear candling world! Now that I have and ear ache, I am reminded that I have missed taking care of myself as well.

The Ear Candle Lady is going to take advantage of some gift giving and use the gift set I received for some good ole’ relaxation and candling.

I’ll be using the winter months to get my website updated and hopefully get the practitioners page up.

In the mean time, treat yourself to some well deserved relaxation (STRESS REDUCTION) from all that Christmas Shopping and go get your ears candled.

Check my “Where to Buy Ear Candles” link for great specials if you are going to do it yourself!

HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a BLESSED NEW YEAR!!!!!

Allergies, Ear Candles and the FDA

I realized that I shouldn’t rant so much about the FDA, but darn it!  It’s sooooo much fun!

The Ear Candle Lady has been watching commercials on TV from the FDA approved drugs to stop our allergy symptoms.  Then, as most of you already know, the remaining 10 seconds of the 15 second commercial spot is spent talking about side effects and dangers of the drug they are trying to sell you.

Are we that desensitized as consumers?

Cows to the slaughter. . .

I’d much rather go have a great massage, add on a session of ear candling and either slip in a pedicure or go have lunch than go to the Dr’s office, wait for up to an hour (while all the drug reps get to see the doctor ahead of me), sitting next to everyone who’s SICK and passing their germs– JUST to get a prescription for drugs that offer more side effects than relief!

Then I have to take the RX, fight traffic, go to Walgreens, wait for them to fill it, charge me my co-pay, drive home, take the darn thing and wait for it to hopefully work!

I need a massage just thinking about it. . . .

So, some of the science of ear candling includes massage therapy.  The body is more prepared to do what it was DESIGNED to do when we are less stressed.

Did you know that 80% of disease is stress related?  Massage and a good ear candling session reduce stress.   You do the math.

I’m totally amazed that we allow ourselves to be herded around by the FDA; who isn’t in it for our welfare, they are lining their pockets from “fast track fees” from Big Pharma.

Bottom line:  You’ll have more fun abating your allergy symptoms with a good massage and ear candle session than using the side effect laden drugs the Doctor prescribes. If you get to lower your stress levels at the same time, you probably won’t catch that Fall cold (since you didn’t wait in the Dr’s office next to all the sick people).

Just sayin. . . .

Review: Ear Candle Sale .com

Ok, I’ve posted about this online company already, but I’ve received feedback from other customers as well so I’m going to post again.

EarCandleSale.com has cheap prices EVERYDAY, they ship fast and every report I’ve received from other customers has been extremely positive.  They carry Soy blend ear candles for 76 cents EVERY DAY, 100% Beeswax for 99 cents EVERY DAY, and Paraffin for 89 cents EVERY DAY.

I’d give them a 4 out of 5 rating (if I rated ear candle companies).  They get a point deducted for not carrying other items besides ear candles.

EarCandleSale.com carries the “Amish” style ear candles.   There’s not a whole lot of difference between Amish and other cones EXCEPT, Wally’s, Harmony and Hopi all have those silly filters inside that just muck up the whole ear candling experience.  They also charge you a whole lot more too!

If you want to achieve the protection of a filter AND still get the heat and smoke from ear candling, just use my ear candling instructions here.

I have to wonder why the “filter kings” don’t tell you the filter is made of plastic and can melt and drip into the ear. . . .

Wait!  I was talking about EarCandleSale.com and jumped on the “filter” soap box.  Sorry.

The Ear Candle Lady is excited when prices are consistant.  I don’t know how they do it EVERY DAY (lol) but I think that is great.

September Ear Candle Deals!

Missouri Scents has a good deal right now.  If you want to try out ALL the different kinds of ear candles (Beeswax, Paraffin and Soy blend) you can order a  “Best of Missouri Sample Pack” for under $20!

The sample pack also includes your choice of a FREE ear oil or a  $15.00 fragrance oil.  I haven’t tried their fragrance oils, but I do know they are synthetic not essential oils.  HOWEVER, they are SUPER CONCENTRATED according to their webpage, so a little goes a long way.

Considering the national health food chains sell 2 ear candles for $12 this is a great deal right now.  You’re getting  12 ear candles PLUS an ear oil for less than the cost of 4 ear candles at places like GNC.

As always I’ll keep looking for and posting good deals on ear candles from GOOD suppliers.

Have a great weekend!

Ear Candle PHD?

The Ear Candle Lady is constantly amazed at what lengths companies will go to manipulate the consumer.  I spend a lot of time online reading the information put out by so called “professionals” –even those with PHD’s in Ear Candling. [ btw, you can't get a phd in ear candling. You can get a Phd from Clayton College in Natural Health, however.]

I really have reservations with websites who use sex to sell ear candles and then write dissertations on why certain ear candle waxes are bad, while waving a PHD as their basis for knowledge on the subject.

The particular website I’m referring to is run by “Doc” who shows more cleavage than wisdom and since they only sell paraffin ear candles; “Doc” has written pages of “intellectual”, non-consumer friendly verbiage to discredit beeswax and soy wax.

To me, “Doc’s” hype is no different than the skeptic, who I mentioned in an earlier post, who tried to prove his skepticism re: ear candles, by writing how ear candles KILLED 2 people! Oh. . .My. . . Heck! [If you didn't read the earlier post: "Death By Ear Candling" check it out below.]

Just so you know, from my 20+ years of totally non-PHD experience: Paraffin is the cheapest way to make an ear candle.  Beeswax is the best and Soy is an affordable alternative to beeswax and is usually mixed with beeswax to perform better.

I don’t sell anything on my website, so my opinions on wax are not designed to manipulate you on purchasing what I (don’t) sell. If you want to learn more about the different kinds of wax used in ear candles, go to my website at www.earcandlelady.com. Follow the links and read up. Then make your OWN EDUCATED DECISION based on unbiased information.

You’ll love your ear candling experience when you are in control!

Knowledge is Power.

Have a great week everyone!
